Dr. Crole is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Anatomy and Physiology. She obtained her Veterinary Science Degree in 2006 and has been involved in teaching Veterinary Anatomy since 2007. She graduated with her MSc in 2009 and is currently completing her PhD. Besides research, her main interest lies in teaching and much of her efforts have been placed into developing anatomy teaching aids and materials for the students. To further develop her teaching, Dr. Crole enrolled for and completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCHE) in 2010. As Patron of the OPVSC, Dr Crole wishes to make a positive impact on student activities within the Faculty and hopes to guide and support the committee in achieving their goals.
Devin was the chairperson of the previous committee and as such will be serving as president to the current committee. He will be helping out the OPVSC when a extra hand or advice is needed. He is currently on the final year clinical rotations.
Rushda is the Chairperson of the OPVSC. It is her job to oversee the smooth running of the committee as well as to make sure that your student life runs as smoothly as possible. She is there to address any issues that the students may have and take it to a higher level if need be. She is also the link between main campus and OP. Essentially, Rushda is there for the students and very open to new ideas, so don't hesitate to contact her for any queries or if you have any suggestions as to how your time at OP can be made even more awesome!
Abdur Rahmaan Kadwa - Vice-Chairperson,Media and RAG
Abdur's role on the on the OPVSC committee is to provide assistance to the chairperson and other members of the committee as and when they need it. Furthermore, his duties encompass the regular updating and maintenance of the OPVSC website and he serves as the OPVSC representative on the RAG committee. Abdur is currently in BVSc I (old programme) and hopes to progress to BVSc II in 2013.
Janette is currently in BVSc III (new programme) and is the committee secretary. She's responsible for making sure that day-to-day office and committee functions run smoothly.The campus edition of Loo News is also part of her job.This year, Carmen and Janette will be organising the always popular "I Want To Be a Vet" Weekend; where scholars get a small taste of what a veterinary degree and life at OP is all about.Bronwyn and Janette share the Community Engagement Portfolio.Community Engagement projects are a very important part of life at OP and to veterinarians.This year their plan is to increase awareness of current projects, improve student involvement and develop some new projects.There are some exciting ideas under development – so keep watching to see what projects you can become involved in.
Carmen handles the committee’s finances and budgets of the student body. In addition, she helps procure sponsorship with the help of other committee members. She is currently in the third year of the new veterinary programme. Carmen and Janette will be managing the 2013 "I Want To Be a Vet" Weekend for scholars.
Lizahn Henning is currently in BVSc II (old programme). She is the Social and Culture OPVSC member for 2013. Lizahn is responsible for keeping the OP traditions alive while incorporating some new events to keep up the balanced lifestyle that is upheld here at Onderstepoort. She'll remind students that there is life after academics and will ensure that students have a memorable social and cultural experience at Onderstepoort.
Bronwyn Orford - Clubs and Societies/Community Engagement
Bronwyn is responsible for the registering and sound functioning of all the many exciting clubs and societies that OP has to offer. These C&S are intended to enrich your studying experience at OP. Make sure you ask her if you want any information regarding the clubs and societies as there is something for everyone!!
She is also going to be responsible for the brand new Community Engagement Portfolio which is are going to focus on making the Community Veterinary Clinics an accessible and therefore frequent location for everyone to be able to visit. They provide the opportunity to enrich the veterinary health care in the communities that have the need and furthermore, they provide an excellent platform for all of us hard studying vets to get some hands-on experience. Bronwyn will also be involved in the collaborating of students who want to reach out to more varied communities with learners who perform the compulsory Community Projects.

As academics representative, Bevin functions as an effective communication channel between staff and students, ensuring that all opinions and concerns are voiced and solutions found. Her most important role currently is to take part in the development of the new BVSc curriculum, ensuring that the degree is shaped to benefit students whilst producing world class veterinarians. Bevin decided to become a vet to fulfil her passion for animal welfare. She is in her third year of veterinary science, and will be part of the first group to graduate under the new BVSc programme.
Tibz is the HK Chairperson and represents the HK on the OPVSC. She is the link between the two committees and provides valuable input to OPVSC and HK related problems. Tibz's slogan is "Onderstepoort is one big family", and she plans to do a lot to make daily's feel part of the Onderstepoort Res. She can be approached with any OP residence or OPVSC related issues. She is currently a BVSc III (old programme) student.
Ashleigh is the sports representative from the House Committee. She strongly believes that sport forms part of a healthy and balanced lifestyle and would like to encourage everyone to get involved in the wide variety of sports offered at OP. OP has an excellent sporting record, with the rugby, hockey, netball and soccer teams dominating the leagues. An afternoon of sport, is a well-deserved break from the books and a great way of having fun, while getting to know a few more awesome people.
