Onderstepoort Horse Riding Club

The riding club welcomes all horse lovers, whether you know how to ride or not. We aim to continue providing the many equestrian orientated students with the opportunity to pursue their passion while at the same time enriching the lives of both the riders and the Nooitgedacht ponies at Onderstepoort.

We provide opportunities for riders to have fun with their allocated ponies while getting to know their fellow riders and senior students at the same time. We host training shows in various disciplines that include people from outside the Faculty. We also organise fun gymkhana days.

For those less competitive riders, we have some stunning outrides on the farm behind the Faculty of Veterinary Science; riders can join as social riders if they only wish to enjoy the occasional outride.

We also assist the Faculty in the training and backing of young horses and we would really like to expand this part of our club by teaching students who want to learn how to do ground work and back a young horse.

We plan to have a few educational clinics in different riding disciplines to broaden our members’ knowledge on all areas of equine work.

By allowing beginner riders to join and receive lessons, we are hopefully providing a platform for students who have no equine experience to learn about these animals in a safe environment with docile ponies before they reach clinics.
