My First Step Into The World Of Exploration

Being allocated a place to stay at Huis Boekenhout is an honour for me. As a first-year who had just matriculated in 2010 and had no experience of campus life. I felt a bit nervous and uncertain of what was coming ahead of me as an Yster at the legendary Huis Boekenhout. Curiosity made me feel like an infant, who is ready to start a new journey. The December holiday was long and I just could not wait to come to Huis Boekenhout.
Being brought up and spending all my life in the farms of Badplaas (Mpumalanga) and coming to the University of Pretoria was a bit frightening. Never the less the brotherhood, pride, respect and traditions of Huis Boekenhout have helped me overcome all the fears of life in a University or even a big city. Since my first day at the Res, there has not been an instance where I felt isolated or lonely. One important thing I have learnt in Boekenhout is its emphasis on individual’s personal development through team-work. With the very strong house committee, Huis Boekenhout seems to be the best amongst the male residences in the university. Whenever I walk through the main campus with my fellow brothers from Huis Boekenhout, there is a feeling of pride within me that I am part of a winning team and that goes a long way with regards to my self-esteem.
2011 promises to be a great year, not only with my personal development, but also with my leadership skills and academics. Huis Boekenhout will play an integral part in this. It is time everyone realizes that Huis Boekenhout is out there for even greater heights!
