RAG

Rag in Kollegetehuis is a unique experience. Most other residences’ aim is to get as many rag points as possible, Kollege on the other hand goes to the heart of rag. We live out the rag spirit! Considering that rag had it’s origin in Kollegetehuis, this is a tradition we continue to be proud of.

The building of the Kollege float also works differently. While other residences fold thousands of plastic ‘flowers’, Kollege’s float is 100% recyclable and is used to put a smile on many faces. In the past some of our floats were a ship filled with toys, a jungle gym, a yellow Volkswagen combi and the garden of eden. The jungle gym, for example, was a donation to a children’s home. In 2005, the theme was the 8th wonder, Kollege decided that a happy home is the real 8th wonder. So we put a wendy house with a bed, toys, lawn and live rabbits on the float.

During rag all the women’s residences know that Kollege is the best place to socialize and here we show all other residences how it should be done. Kollege-rag is something that no one should miss. We have the true spirit of rag!

Kollege and Katjiepering 2010

The theme behind our float, as always, is to give back to the community. This year our float featured a roundabout and a JoJo tank. This will be donated to a community in need. As children play o the roundabout, it will pump water from a bore-hole filling the tank with drinking water.

Kollege and Inca 2009

The Republic of Kollegetehuis had the privilege to have Inca from Groenkloof campus to RAG with us. The experience was quite astounding to meet up with these teachers and show them how Kollege does RAG.
All in all it was a great combined effort of Kollege building the float and Inca folding the "blommetjies".
The end product, our float was a submarine.

The procession was a blast. The EC (Executive Council), has a tradition of building an EC trolley to enjoy the procession in style and comfort. In the unfortunate event of the trolley’s one wheel breaking resulting in the EC having to walk. Was fun none the less.
The end result of the procession, our float got a staggering eighth place.

Kollege and Asterhof 2008

In 2008 Kollege ragged with Asterhof. With Kollege being the oldest men's residence and Asterhof being the oldest women's residence the theme was easy. The oldest Residences in Tuks.
