South Africa’s Public Protector, Thuli Madonsela, addressed aspiring human rights lawyers from across the continent at the opening ceremony of the Master of Laws (LLM) in Human Rights and Democratisation in Africa, a programme of the Centre for Human Rights in the Faculty of Law at the University of Pretoria.

Today, 10 February 2012, the University of Pretoria is 104 years old – two years older than the Hatfield Campus and the Old Arts Building. This week also saw UP proudly participating in the 100th birthday celebrations of its oldest living alumna, Ms Tilly Fick.
The annual Tuks Rag Procession will be held on Saturday, 11 February 2012. A new slightly shorter route and earlier timeslot have been introduced for the procession.

The TuksRAG UP Beatz Festival will be presented at the Rag Farm on Friday, 10 February 2012. This charity fund-raiser music festival will comprise performances by a number of local and national artists who will provide non-stop entertainment from 14:00 right through to 23:00.

At a launch event held on 18 November 2011, and with funding support from the Southern African Institute of Welding (SAIW), the University of Pretoria (UP) announced the establishment of a new Centre for Welding Engineering and a new postgraduate programme for welding engineers and welding technologists.

Nine students from the Fordham University in the USA and the Programme Director of Fordham University, Prof Booi Themeli, were welcomed by Mr Wallace Isaacs, Deputy Director Client Services, and Prof Antoinette Lombard, Academic Director of the Fordham Programme, at their orientation programme on Thursday, 2 February.
