The Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University of Pretoria, Prof Cheryl de la Rey, hosted the Belgian Deputy Prime-Minister, who is also the Belgian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Institutional Reforms, His Excellency Mr. Steven Vanackere, at the University of Pretoria on 01 November 2010. The visit of Minister Vanackere followed on the recent visit of President Jacob Zuma to Belgium, during which he combined bilateral discussions with multilateral meetings in the context of the European Union institutions. President Zuma's visit underscored the vibrant bilateral cooperation between South Africa and Belgium - a relationship that is reinforced by the EU-South Africa strategic partnership.

The Department of Architecture, at the University of Pretoria, is proud to announce that Ruann van der Westhuizen (a 2010 MProf(Arch)-graduate) has been nominated as one of twenty-four international finalists for the Archiprix International competition.

The thesis is titled "A public bathhouse" .The project proposes an ablution facility close within the Marabastad station, precinct. The ritual of cleansing (in an urban environment) is investigated, and the built form is layered to provide different levels of privacy.
