Dr Ina Joubert from the Department of Early Childhood Education was involved in a new Afrikaans series for the Foundation Phase. The goal of this ‘Platinum Afrikaans Huistaal’ series for Afrikaans is to assist teachers in such a way that learners will be able to successfully understand and learn Afrikaans. The series abides by all requirements of the National Curriculum and Assessment Policy of the Department of Basic Education.

A diverse group of high-profile individuals have teamed up with students from the University of Cape Town (UCT) and the Centre for Human Rights at the University of Pretoria to create It Gets Better South Africa. The collection of videos discourages homophobic bullying and promotes the Triangle Project Helpline, a service for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) youth.

UP research awarded at the Combined Congress

Twenty-five students and staff members of the Department of Plant Production and Soil Science attended the recent Combined Congress in Durban from 21 to 24 January, where eight of the University of Pretoria's representatives were recognised for their research contributions.

The Congress is jointly hosted by the South African Society of Crop Production (SASCP), the Soil Science Society of South Africa (SSSSA), the Southern African Society for Horticultural Sciences (SASHS) and the Southern African Weed Science Society (SAWSS).
