Talented University of Pretoria (UP) doctoral student, Ms Madeleine Bihina Bella, was one of the select few who received a prestigious 2011 L'Oréal-UNESCO Regional Fellowship for Women in Science in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Opening of the new entrance, parkade and Ring Road

I am pleased to inform you that the Engineering/Parkade project on the Hatfield Campus has reached the point where the new entrance in University Road and the parkade can be put in service. The entrance and parkade will be open as from Wednesday, 6 July 2011. Katanga Parking Services was appointed to manage the parkade.

The University of Pretoria's Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Prof Cheryl de la Rey, hosted the Republic of Sudan's Minister of Animal Resources and Fisheries, His Excellency Dr Fisal Hassan Ibrahim, and his delegates during their visit to the University.

An international panel that reviewed the University of Pretoria's (UP) Library earlier this year in its report described it as a national leader, innovator and resource of national importance. It is therefore quite apt that Mr Robert Moropa, the man at the helm of UP's Department of Library Services, was the only African to be elected as an alternate delegate representing the Online Computer Library Centre (OCLC) Europe Middle East and Africa (EMEA) Regional Council which is one of three sub-regions comprising the Global Council of the OCLC for the period 2011 - 2014.The OCLC is a well-respected international cooperative that serves libraries and advocates on their behalf. A total of 175 university, governmental and public libraries in South Africa are members of the OCLC.

The Department of Physics in collaboration with the Southern Africa Association for the Advancement of Science (S2A3) and the Sci-Enza hosted a very successful lunar eclipse viewing evening on 15 June 2011, which was attended by about 150 people.
