The National Research Foundation (NRF) under their South African Research Chairs Initiative (SARChI) has awarded the University of Pretoria with four Research Chairs. This brings the number of SARChI Chairs at the University to 11.

Tuks student, Carlyn Fischer, sponsored by the High Performance Centre’s (hpc) Sport Science and Medical Unit, got her season off to an excellent start when she won the women’s title at the 2012 Cape Town ITU Sprint Triathlon African Cup on Sunday, 19 February.

The University of Pretoria Business Incubator (UPBI) held its first of a series of network evenings on 15 February 2012 in the Graduate Centre on the Hatfield Campus of the University of Pretoria. The event was attended by 75 student entrepreneurs.

The brand-new, modern student accommodation that was officially opened by the University of Pretoria at the Onderstepoort Campus on 22 February 2012 will contribute to the University’s plans to significantly expand its Faculty of Veterinary Science. This was according to Prof Cheryl de la Rey, Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University of Pretoria and also the keynote speaker at the event.

The Tuks and High Performance Centre (hpc)-sponsored rowers made waves at the 125th annual Buffalo Regatta in East London from 17 to 18 February, where Peter Lambert won both the magnificent trophies at stake – the Buffalo Grand Challenge (for Senior A Coxless Fours) and the Silver Sculls (for Senior A Single Sculls), which was last achieved in 1994.
