The National Research Foundation (NRF) under their South African Research Chairs Initiative (SARChI) has awarded the University of Pretoria with four Research Chairs. This brings the number of SARChI Chairs at the University to 11.

Prof Rivka Kfir, former CEO of the Water Research Commission (WRC), recently joined the Water Institute of the University of Pretoria (UP). The Water Institute is currently addressing a wide range of water issues through its participating members from all UP faculties. Prof Kfir will play an important role in the positioning of the Water Institute in the national and international academic, governance and stakeholder environments.

The Department of Paediatrics at Kalafong Hospital, together with Right-to-Care and Abbott Pharmaceuticals, hosted the very successful "Emerging problems in Paediatric and Adolescent HIV" workshop in Pretoria on Friday, 24 February 2012. The focus was on caring for HIV-infected adolescents.

The Student Parliament held its constituting meeting on 8 March 2012. At the meeting, the Student Representative Council (SRC) was elected by members of the Student Parliament.
