Students keep their health in check!

Students gathered at the University of Pretoria’s clinic for screening tests of diseases as part of the health-awareness campaign by the University’s Student Health Department in collaboration with Mediclinic Muelmed.

Students, including staff, undertook screening tests for various health-risks such as blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar, also confirming their blood group. This event follows the initial major health awareness campaign held in March this year with an objective of heightening awareness on key student health risks that eventually affect students’ potential to achieve their academic goals.

Africa Forum on Mining looks at research opportunities in Africa

Mr Momo Andrew Sekopane graduated with a PhD in Education at the University of Pretoria. His research focused on the moral development of adolescents orphaned by HIV/AIDS in child headed households. He holds a University Diploma in Higher Education, a Further Diploma in Environmental Education, and a BEd Degree in Personal and Professional Leadership from the University of Johannesburg – as well as a Master’s Degree in Philosophy from the University of Pretoria.

Paraplegic student overcomes the odds

Nathan Webb receives his BCom Business Management from the University of Pretoria – despite suffering an injury in his third year of studies which left him paraplegic.

After matriculating from Penryn College in 2009 in Nelspruit, Webb enrolled at the University of Pretoria in 2010. His life changed drastically in his third year after being involved in a car accident in January 2012, which left him permanently confined to a wheelchair. However, he resumed attending classes only a month later.
