UP Alumni a Hugo Kauder Finalist

Cobus du Toit, an alumni of the University of Pretoria, is one of the finalists in the 5th International Hugo Kauder Competition for flute, oboe and clarinet, which will take place in New Haven in Colorado in the USA on 11 September 2009. Ten woodwind players including flutists, clarinetists and oboists under the age of 35 of various nationalities have been selected to perform in front of a distinguished live jury.

District 9 – A little known fact about the Faculty of Veterinary Science and the movie

District 9, the new film by the renowned film producer and Oscar-winning director, Peter Jackson, who was responsible for the production and special effects of movies such as King Kong and Lord of the Rings, was released on the big screen by Ster Kinekor on Friday 28 August. Not many people know that some of the scenes for the movie were filmed at the Faculty of Veterinary Science of the University of Pretoria in December 2008.
