The University of Pretoria (UP) has a long and proud tradition of being one of the main sponsors of and hosting the national finals of the Eskom Expo for Young Scientists. This partnership was reaffirmed during a gala dinner in October where the 30th anniversary of the Eskom Expo for Young Scientists was celebrated.

On Tuesday 5 October, the University of Pretoria (UP), in conjunction with the Mail&Guardian newspaper, launched its Public Conversations: 2010 series with the debate: "Are Media Restrictions Necessary?" The debate was held at 17:30 in the Sanlam Auditorium in the Conference Centre on UP's Hatfield Campus. Dennis Davis, the renowned judge and public intellectual, joined a panel consisting of Zizi Kodwa, President Jacob Zuma's spokesperson, Joe Thloloe, the Press Ombudsman and Nic Dawes, editor of the Mail&Guardian. The discussion was chaired by Prof Christof Heyns, Dean of the School of Law at the UP.

The University of Pretoria has been awarded the Golden Award (second overall) by the PMR.Africa Company during the Pretoria/Tshwane Municipal District Leaders and Achievers Awards held yesterday (05-10-2010) at the Pretoria Country Club. The award came as a result of a research process whereby companies and institutions are rated based on respondents'perceptions with a strong focus on evaluating and measuring customer service and satisfaction.

Two new NRF ratings for Faculty of Education

The Faculty of Education proudly announces that two of our academic staff members have received a National Research Foundation (NRF) rating. Prof Neil Roos was rated as a C-2 researcher and Dr Carien Lubbe-De Beer as a Y-2 researcher.
