Services offered
The services offered by the unit include the following:
- coordination of departmental (EI) research and development activities;
- specific research within EI (in support of a departmental objective);
- faculty-based research and development projects;
- institution-wide research and development requested by UP Executive.
Research in Higher Education typically falls within the areas of education policy, curriculum development, teaching, learning & assessment, student feedback, academic student support and study success of students. Research projects include
- annual institutional survey: student satisfaction on teaching and learning;
- standard institutional student feedback instrument on the quality of education, including the data capturing system;
- feedback instruments on quality of practical training;
- institutional HE-related research projects according to need;
- draft policy development.
Cost of service
Based on project proposals and associated allocation of funds from relevant sources.
Process description and process flow diagram
Research: client needs, mandate, protocol, ethical clearance, execution of research, report.
Development: client needs, mandate, framework, task team, draft, institutional consultation, final approval of draft, submission to UP Executive, approval at Senate/UP Board.
Roles and responsibilities clearly defined
The roles are defined in the project proposals.
Conflict resolution management
It is expected that the research project manager will be informed of all decisions taken by the different stakeholders throughout the project. If parties are in conflict with one another, the research project manager will generally serve as mediator to diffuse the conflict. If the project manager is not able to solve the conflict, parties may contact the Head: Higher Education Research and Innovation to try and find an agreeable solution for all concerned.
Reporting process
Formal reports where applicable will be communicated through the Director: Education Innovation, and channeled through to the relevant parties.
