Mini Baja is an international competition that is run under the SAE flag. SAE should be known from the books and articles that they publish.
See: http://students.sae.org/competitions/bajasae/.
The competition is aimed at better education for engineering students. Currently there are 6 Baja competitions worldwide under the SAE banner, namely 3 in die USA and 1 each in Korea, Brazil and South Africa. The University of Pretoria have been organizing the local competition, sponsored by Sasol since 1996. This year’s competition takes place in mid October.
CSIR TuksBaja is the University of Pretoria’s team, sponsored by the CSIR. They did well in the 2010 competition, scoring 1st place in the design report and static judging. They placed 4th overall out of the 22 teams that entered the competition. CSIR TuksBaja’s labs are on campus in the heavy machine labs. The design and manufacturing of the new car is well under way and they hope to do even better in the competition this year.
