Champions! From left, back: Mpumi Maseko, Natascha Louw, Ilse van Staden, Mokgethi Maleka, Cindy Cant (capt), Janine Botha, Ingrid Botha; front: Riaan van der Merwe (Coach), Yolanda Meiring, Marlien Cronje, Pulane Motloung.
TuksRugby's women 7's team won the "Tournoi International Rugby A 7" in Reunion on Saturday, 25 June by betaing France 12-10 in the final.
It was the first time ever that Tuks, the only club team that participated, beat the national women 7's team of France. Tuks also beat France in the knock-out round (24-7) AND took another French team, that of the French Marines, to task in the semi-finals (14-0). In the other group matches Tuks beat New Caledonia (41-0) and Reunion (36-0).
Coach Riaan van der Merwe was over the moon, understandably so.
"The girls showed a lot of heart and they were rewarded for giving their all. I am very proud of all of them," he said.
Yolanda Meiring and Ingrid Botha scored Tuks' tries in the final. Yolanda added a conversion.
Tuks' next tournaments are in Zambia in August and Zimbabwe in October.
