TuksSport on Friday (27 February) announced the appointment of seasoned sports writer Morris Gilbert as part-time media consultant.
Gilbert, who became a household name with his rugby articles on the Blue Bulls and Bulls in Beeld, has gone on early retirement after being on Media24’s pay roll for the past 28 years and eight months.
Rugby is Gilbert’s speciality, but in his illustrious career he has also reported on athletics, cricket, gymnastics, tennis, wrestling and swimming.
TuksSport’s Marketing and Communications Manager, Henda van Schalkwyk described Gilbert’s appointment as a huge gain.
“Morris is a big and well-known name in the South African sports journalism industry. We will make full use of his vast experience. His duties as media consultant will include managing the websites of TuksAthletics, TuksCricket, TuksNetball and TuksRugby.”
“It is always so much nicer to welcome an ex-Tukkie in our midst, especially some-one like Morris who has over the years expressed a keen passion for and interest in sport at the University of Pretoria. He is also very proud of his ties with Sonop, the hostel where he resided as a student.”
“It is to be noted that Morris’ career as sports writer started at Tuks. He joined the editorial staff of Perdeby in his first year. We at TuksSport look forward to a long and fruitful relationship with Morris. We know he will make a significant difference to the quality and dynamics of our website,” Van Schalkwyk added.
