TuksRugby : Heyneke only advisor, not Tuks 1 coach

Posted on 07 December 2010

Heyneke Meyer's involvement with FNB Tuks 1's 2011 FNB Varsity Cup campaign will only be that of advisor and not head coach as widely reported in the main stream media.

TuksSport Director, Kobus van der Walt said it is factually untrue that Meyer has been or will in the foreseeable future be appointed FNB Tuks’ new Varsity Cup Head Coach.

“Heyneke’s involvement as an ad hoc advisor is in accordance with a gentleman’s agreement between TuksSport and the Blue Bulls Company (BBC)'. Heyneke will advise FNB Tuks 1 and the University of Pretoria on FNB Varsity Cup related matters as club rugby is one of his responsibilities as Executive : Rugby of the Blue Bulls Company. Heyneke will advise the FNB Tuks 1 team on a part time basis only,” said Van der Walt.

“Heyneke may well take charge of particular training sessions and also be present at most other training session, but this will all be in an advisory capacity,” Van der Walt added.

Nollis Marais is FNB Tuks 1’s Senior Coach and will be assisted by Pote Human (forwards) and a backline coach still to be named. Blikkies Groenewald, TuksRugby’s Technical Director and FNB Tuks’ head coach in the 2010 Carlton Cup Competition and National Club Championships will assist when and where needed.

The FNB Tuks 1 Management Team for the 2011 FNB Varsity Cup competition is:

Advisors: Heyneke Meyer, Blikkies Groenewald. Senior Coach: Nollis Marais. Forwards coach: Pote Human. Conditioning coach: Shaun du Toit. Team Manager: Morris Gilbert. Medical doctor: Herman Rossouw. Physiotherapist: Pieter du Plessis. Logistics Manager: Werner de Beer. Kit Master: Francois Nel.
