TuksAthletics : Tuks' ladies shine at SA Student Champs

Whilst the country had a very long weekend the Tuks athletics team was fighting their way to the top at the South African Student Championships in Stellenbosch on 29 and 30 April 2011.

On the 27th a team of 65 athletes and 10 officials departed for Stellenbosch. Tuks athletes had a field two days: winning 14 gold, 12 silver and 4 bronze medals. Thanks to a great team spirit and awesome performances the Tuks came 2nd after the NWU. The Tuks ladies won their team competition.

The 11 Tuks athletes selected for the World Student Squad that will be competing at the 2011 World Student Games are Hannes Dreyer, Ruan de Vries, Willie de Beer, Jacques de Swart, Caster Semenya, Claudia Viljoen, Erika Kleinhans, Rikenette Steenkamp, Cherese Jones, Alet van Wyk, Wenda Theron,.

GOLD
Bianca Erasmus – Heptathlon; Caster Semenya – 400m, 800m, 1500m; Wenda Theron – 400mH; Claudia Viljoen – 100mH; Sonia Smuts – Shot put,; Maryke Oberholzer – Discus throw, 4x100m ladies relay, 4x400m ladies relay; Ruan de Vries 110mH; Wayne Snyman – 20km Walk, 4x100 men relay, 4x400m men relay.

SILVER
Cherese Jones – 100m; Wenda Theron – 400m; Zintle Sinqe – 5000m; Liziwe Mabona – 21.1km; Myrette Filmalter – 3000mSC; Erika Kleinhans – 100mH; Danielle Labuschange – Pole Vault; Monja Goosen – Long jump; Hannes Dreyer – 200m; Willie de Beer – 400m; Russell Tucker – Discus throw; Vincent van Rensburg – Hamer throw.

BRONZE
Sonia Smuts – Discus throw; Hannes Dreyer – 100m; Munthing Hamman – 110mH; Alex Jacobs – Javelin.
