A final team of 31 athletes have been announced to represent South Africa at the World Junior Championships in Barcelona, Spain, from 10–15 July 2012. TuksAthletics contributed no fewer than ten athletes to the team, which includes Gerhard de Beer, bronze medal winner at the 2011 IAAF World Youth Championships.

The team consists of a good mix of experienced athletes and some newcomers to the World Championships. In addition to De Beer, athletes such as Duwayne Boer, Pieter Conradie, Janet Seeliger and Stephanie Wicksell have also participated in the 2011 event in France, with Zanri van der Merwe having participated in the 2009 event that took place in Italy.

Joining them for the first time at a World Championship is Ruan Greyling, currently the number 3 ranked athlete in the world in the 400m, Mpho Maphutha, who in 2011 became the youngest South African athlete ever to jump 8.00m, Bernard Pretorius, currently ranked number 5 in the world in the 400m hurdles, Simone Meyer, the heir apparent to Elizna Naudé in the discus and Janet Seeliger, one of four youth athletes to be included in the junior team (Boer also being a youth athlete).

We wish them all the best.
