Students and staff showed their true colours at this year’s Tuks CANSA Shavathon, which took place on four campuses between 11 and 17 April 2012. Many went bald for the cause and some brave ladies even parted with their ponytails.
All this to raise funds for the Cancer Society of South Africa in order to promote research and awareness in the country. More than R50 000 was collected this year.
Even the “big wigs” were there: Prof Irma Eloff (Dean: Education), Prof Gerry Swan (Dean: Veterinary Science) and Prof Johann Engelbrecht (Deputy Dean: Natural and Agricultural Sciences) got instant make-overs.
There were enough fun and games with “Back in the Shire” live on the Groenkloof campus, as well as DJ Superman (Pedro from Kiaat) who had everyone dancing to the latest hits in the Piazza and at the Prinshof Campus.
The School of Dentistry managed to raise R30 000 on their own – thanks to the inspiring auction campaign led by Prof Leanne Sykes.
At Onderstepoort, even a four-legged friend participated in the action!
A big thank you to all the sponsors: Department of Student Affairs, TuksRes, Vodacom, Bookmark, Wannabee, Exclusive Books, Oom Gert, Desmondi’s and Marie Claire.
