Education Induction Programme

INDUCTION OUTCOMES:

Attendance of this programme is one of the first steps towards achieving the following outcomes:

  • getting to know the UP teaching and learning context;
  • knowing university students and how they learn;
  • accommodating diversity;
  • communicating effectively with students;
  • planning and facilitating various learning opportunities that enhance active learning;
  • designing and developing a curriculum;
  • planning and implementing accountable assessment;
  • using various educational media to facilitate learning;
  • exploring the possibilities of e-learning; and
  • identifying and considering various teaching methods’ strengths, weaknesses and possibilities for application.

During the week participants will be challenged to:

  • identify (and discuss/suggest solutions to) problems relating to their own teaching practice;
  • work together with other lecturing staff as a member of a small group;
  • identify ways of organising and managing their own teaching responsibilities;
  • communicate effectively, using education media and language skills;
  • view examples of the use of electronic media;
  • identify where education and electronic media would be applicable in THEIR own teaching practice; and
  • contribute to the personal and professional development of each participant, by actively participating in the activities, by sharing their existing expertise and by taking part in peer evaluation activities.
