UP co-hosts CoE for Food Security - 14/03/2014
The recent announcement that the University of Pretoria (UP) and the University of the Western Cape together with their consortia partners, will co-host the Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Food Security, will address some of the dire challenges of food security. The CoE provides an exciting opportunity to expand the work of the Institute for Food Nutrition and Well-being (IFNuW). The Institutional Research Theme it hosts was initiated with UPs strategic funding in 2011.
Aeronautical Engineers making a difference - 13/03/2014
In response to the much publicised problem of rhino poaching in the Kruger National Park, a team of students from the University of Pretoria and three partner universities are designing and building an unmanned fixed-wing aircraft equipped with intelligence gathering sensors, such as cameras with night vision, which will enable park rangers to pro-actively fight poaching.
UP Professor awarded UNESCO-UNU Chair - 11/03/2014
Professor Lorenzo Fioramonti, associate professor in the department of Political Sciences and Director of the Centre for the Study of Governance Innovation at UP, has been appointed as Chair in Regional Integration, Migration and Free Movement of People by UNESCO in collaboration with the United Nations University.
