Choirs

The University of Pretoria Concert Choir

The UP Concert Choir was established in 2001.

Concerts focus on the lighter side of choir music and also choral works for big choirs and symphony orchestra. Its aim is to perform Western as well as African music.

The choir is conducted by Johann van der Sandt and at present consists of 160 members, of which all are enrolled students or staff members of the University.

The University of Pretoria Camerata

Based at the University of Pretoria, the Tuks Camerata (formerly known as the “Tukkie Koor” established in 1968) has been the second home on campus for its members for the duration of their studies.

Some have met their spouses, others seen the world, and all have made life-long friends in the choir.  Whether the music has inspired this camaraderie or whether it is enriched by it is uncertain; but what is certain is that both are present at every performance, giving it that extra bit of uniqueness every time.

In addition to regular concerts on the campus, the choir regularly participates at church services. National and international concert tours are undertaken annually.

Countries visited include: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Britain, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Namibia, the Republic of China, Russia, Singapore, South America, Sweden, Zimbabwe and Czech Republic.

The University of Pretoria Chorale Choir

The UP Chorale Choir was officially established on 2 March 1998. This choir specialises in African Folk as well as African composed music. The choir has 25 members and the conductor is Mokale Koapeng.
