Well known pyrometallurgy expert visits UP

Prof Tangstad’s visit to UP kicked-off with a visit to Transalloys – producers of silico-and ferromanganese in eMalahleni (previously known as Witbank). At UP she met with prospective NTNU students with links to UP and the research group in pyrometallurgy. She gave a lecture to final year metallurgical engineering students on the application of high temperature reaction kinetics in manganese ferro-alloy production, gave inputs to research work done by three final year students supervised by Mrs Joalet Steenkamp, met with some first year metallurgical engineering students and gave a presentation to the Pretoria branch of the SAIMM highlighting potential areas collaboration between South Africa and Norway specifically on research on manganese ferroalloy production. The visit was short but sweet and we would like to thank Assmang (African Rainbow Minerals) for ‘importing’ prof Tangstad to South Africa.
