Curriculum and programme

Introduction

Due to the fact that we are starting this Academy at Grade 8, we will put a great deal of emphasis and attention on the basics. Basics will also be of primary and essential importance to all other age groups. Therefore when it comes to a curriculum, it does not have to change too much between age groups. Junior groups of 14 to 17 years old should also be exposed to skills and technical programmes from the groups of 18 to 19 years old, and the same with the senior group. Physical preparation will be based on the maturity of the athlete on that level. We will therefore be following a programme based on the breakdown of the athletics year:

  • general preparation;
  • specific preparation; and
  • competition season.
