Department of Chemistry Research Seminar - 27 July 2012By Patricia ForbesPosted on 24 July 2012  The Synthesis of Oxygen Containing Heterocycles: Dehydroherbarin, Anhydroherbarin, Rotenone and the Acetal Core of Marticin by Charles de Koning University of the Witwatersrand Date: Friday, 27 July 2012 Time: 11:30 - 12:30 Venue: The Mendeleev (2.32) – Chemistry Building Abstract: Oxygen containing heterocycles are found abundantly in Nature. Examples would include the naturally occurring compounds. In this presentation novel methodology for the synthesis of the quinones dehydroherbarin, anhydroherbarin and the acetal core of marticin will be described. Our synthetic route for the asymmetric synthesis of the piscicide rotenone will also be outlined.
