Recent research conducted by Dr Roula Inglesi-Lotz, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Economics, in collaboration with Prof Anastassios Pouris of the Institute for Technological Innovation (ITI), attracted the interest of the University World News, an international newspaper and website, dedicated to providing coverage of developments in the field of higher education worldwide.

In their paper, published in the Scientometrics journal and titled “The Influence of Scientific Research Output of Academics on Economic Growth in South Africa: An autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) application”, they argue that South Africa’s academic research output – published articles measured against the rest of the world – could be considered a factor influencing the country’s economic growth as measured by gross domestic product (GDP).
