The annual Midwinter Mathematics Morning presented by the Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics was graced this year by the wit of mathematician cum author Michael Sears.

Michael Sears is an excellent applied mathematician, who was previously HOD at Wits and Head of remote sensing at Anglo American. Michael has since become involved in writing crime novels, situated in Botswana and featuring CID Inspector Kubu, a larger than life character.

Michael co-authors with Stanley Trollip under the pen name Michael Stanley, a collaboration that stretches over many years. The novels have received acclaim in the US, the UK, India and Australia and boast with various nominations and awards. Michael Sears entertained and amused the audience claiming, for example, that film producers were desperately wanting to offer them a contract but simply have as yet not been able to find them.
