Die 54ste Internasionale Kongres van die Federasie van Suid-Afrikaanse Patologieverenigings, waarvan die Universiteit van Pretoria se Departement Patologie in die Fakulteit Gesondheidswetenskappe ín trotse medeaanbieder was, het onlangs by die WNNR se doelgeboude Internasionale Konvensiesentrum plaasgevind. Gedagtig aan die prestige van hierdie kongres het die organiserende komitee ín uitstekende program saamgestel vir diť forum en byeenkoms van patoloŽ en wetenskaplikes in laboratoriumgeneeskunde uit die openbare en die private sektor.

Dr Candice van Wyk came second in the 4th annual SAB FOUNDATION SOCIAL INNOVATION AWARDS 2014 ceremony that was held at the South African Breweries head office in Sandton on the 30th of October 2014. This annual award, now in its fourth year, recognises and rewards innovators, enterprises, and organisations that address developmental issues in creative and sustainable ways. The SAB Foundation Innovation Awards is open to any innovation solution that offers a credible prospect of meeting a demonstrable social and/or economic need evidenced by the SABF’s target low-income beneficiary groups (women, the youth, persons with disabilities and persons in rural areas).

Clinical Laboratory Statistics workshop at Faculty of Health Sciences

Professor Anders Kallner, from the Karolinska institute, Stockholm, Sweden, ran a very successful statistics workshop at the Faculty of Health Sciences on 22-23 September 2014. The workshop was attended by registrars from all over the country, including as far afield as Cape Town and Durban and from all the institutions.
