Prof Ross Roeser from the Callier Center, University of Texas in Dallas, presented a hands-on workshop for Audiology staff members on ear canal management.

Ear canal management has recently been added to the scope of practice for audiologists by the Health Professions Council of South Africa. In a proactive effort to ensure "best practice training", the Department of Communication Pathology  at the University of Pretoria in collaboration with a private company, Hearing Innvoations, have brought in a world-renown expert in this field, Prof Ross Roeser, to train staff members to be trainers in this field.

Prof Roeser is from the Callier Center, University of Texas in Dallas, where he was head of this prestigous Department for almost two decades and now serves as Professor. He is a widely acknowledged expert in audiology with a specific focus on ear canal management.

The initial "train the trainers" workshop held for staff members are followed-up by several additional workshops for practitioners in the field. These workshops provide a firm theoretical underpinning alongside a practical hands-on session to ensure competence in the skills of ear canal management.

This exciting new field for audiologists will ensure better service delivery to patients through "best practice" training.
