The Department of Anthropology and Archaeology invites applications for one teaching post in Anthropology from candidates specialising in the fields of Economic Anthropology and/or the Anthropology of Development;

LECTURER/SENIOR LECTURER IN ANTHROPOLOGY (ONE POST)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent will be required to:

• Teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, particularly in the fields of Economic Anthropology and/or the Anthropology of Development;
• Develop curricula for, and co-ordinate, programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, particularly in the fields of Economic Anthropology and/or the Anthropology of Development;
• Conduct and publish research in one or both of the fields identified above;
• Undertake academic administration and other tasks as determined by the Head of Department;
• Participate in the Department’s strategic initiatives relating to teaching, research and community engagement activities.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

LECTURER: 

• Master’s degree in Social or Cultural Anthropology;
• Appropriate research and publication track record, particularly in the fields of Economic Anthropology and/or the Anthropology of Development;
• Appropriate teaching experience;
• Appropriate language and communication skills;
• Good interpersonal and mentoring skills.


SENIOR LECTURER:

• Doctorate in Social or Cultural Anthropology;
• Appropriate research and publication track record, particularly in the fields of Economic Anthropology and/or the Anthropology of Development;
• Appropriate teaching experience;
• Proven postgraduate supervision skills at the appropriate level;
• Appropriate language and communication skills;
• Good interpersonal and mentoring skills.


RECOMMENDATION:

• Experience in the applied field of development.



The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of qualification and experience, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED medical aid scheme and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.

In die nastrewing van die ideale van uitnemendheid en diversiteit, word aansoeke vir die bogenoemde pos ingewag.

PLIGTE:

• Onderrig van voor- en nagraadse studente, veral op die terrein van Ekonomiese Antropologie en/of die Antropologie van Ontwikkeling;
• Kurrikula-ontwikkeling en programkoördinering op voor- en nagraadse vlak, veral op die terrein van Ekonomiese Antropologie en/of die Antropologie van Ontwikkeling;
• Onderneem en publiseer navorsing binne een of albei bogenoemde terreine;
• Akademiese administrasie en ander pligte soos bepaal deur die Departementshoof;
• Deelname aan die Departement se strategiese inisiatiewe ten opsigte van onderrig, navorsing en gemeenskapsbetrokkenheid.


MINIMUM VEREISTES:

LEKTOR:

• Magistersgraad in Sosiale of kulturele Antropologie;
• ‘n Toepaslike navorsing- en publikasierekord, veral op die terrein van Ekonomiese Antropologie en/of die Antropologie van Ontwikkeling;
• Toepaslike onderrigervaring;
• Toepaslike taal- en kommunikasievaardighede;
• Goeie interpersoonlike en mentorvaardighede.


SENIOR LEKTOR:

• Doktorsgraad in Sosiale of Kulturele Antropologie;
• ‘n Toepaslike navorsing- en publikasierekord, veral op die terrein van Ekonomiese Antropologie en/of die Antropologie van Ontwikkeling;
• Bewese studieleiding vaardighede op toepaslike vlak;
• Toepaslike onderrigervaring;
• Toepaslike taal- en kommunikasievaardighede;
• Goeie interpersoonlike en mentorvaardighede.


AANBEVELING:

• Ondervinding in die toegepaste veld van ontwikkeling.


Die jaarlikse vergoedingspakket vir hierdie pos sal in ooreenstemming met die suksesvolle kandidaat se kwalifikasie- en ervaringsvlak wees. UP onderskryf die BESTMED mediese skema en dra 50% van die toepaslike maandelikse paaiement by.
