UP forensics expert elected as president of international body

Prof Herman Bernitz was recently re-elected for a second term as President of IOFOS , the International Organisation of Forensic Odonto-Stomatology
Professor Bernitz recently attended the triennial conference of the International Association of Forensic Sciences in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, where he presented a paper detailing a dental forensic operation in Maputo, Mocambique.
The AGM of the international Organisation for Forensic Odonto-Stomatology IOFOS was held during the course of the conference. At this meeting Herman was re-elected for a second term as President of the organisation. He assumed office after the previous AGM in Hong Kong in 2005. He will be assisted by an intenational committee consisting of Vice President Tore Solheim (Norway), Secretary/Treasurer Christophe Rallon (France), Journal editor Jules Kieser (New Zealand) and newsletter editor Sonja Boy (South Africa) .
At the meeting the prestigious Ferdinand Strøm Award was presented to the young researcher whose paper was adjudged the best in Forensic Odontology. It was awarded to Dr Cristiana Pereira from Portugal who spoke on "Unidentified skeletal assemblages from mass graves after the Lisbon Earthquake of 1755." .
