The hopes of South Africa rests, to a very large extent, on developments in Science, Engineering and Technology. The Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences aims to provide leadership in the fields of basic natural sciences and mathematics. It has substantial records of research achievement. High quality of undergraduate and postgraduate education is offered and involvement in a variety of community projects contribute to excellence provided by the Faculty.

Mathematician receives SAMS Award for Research Distinction - 31/10/2014

Prof James Raftery received the SAMS Award for Research Distinction at the South African Mathematical Society 57th Annual Conference that was held in Johannesburg from 29 to 31 October. We congratulate James on his achievement and share in the honour that this has brought to our department.

UP awarded status as MRC collaborative centre for malaria research - 30/10/2014
From UP Centre for Sustainable Malaria Control

The Medical Research Council (MRC) invited higher education institutions, science councils and registered non-profit research organisations in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Mozambique to submit applications to become part of their new initiative, MRC Collaborating Centres for Malaria Research. The University of Pretoria’s Centre for Sustainable Malaria Control (UP CSMC) recently received word that their application has been successful. The network of MRC collaborating centres for malaria research will collectively provide a multidisciplinary approach to malaria research; synergise efforts on malaria research to achieve common goals; and facilitate scientific collaboration among malaria researchers in Southern Africa.
