The Faculty of Theology and the Centre of Contextual Ministry bids farewell to Prof Malan Nel. Prof Malan Nel, director of the Centre of Contextual Services is retiring after 32 years of service at UP.

Prof Nel was appointed as senior lecturer in UP’s Faculty of Theology in 1980 and promoted to associate professor in 1982. From 1988 until 1993 he was senior lecturer at Vista University and part-time lecturer at UP. Prof Nel served as director of the Department of Contextual Services at Vista University between 1994 and 2001. From 2002 until the time of his retirement Prof Nel was extraordinary professor in the Department of Practical Theology as well as director of the Centre of Contextual Ministry at UP. He specialised in congregational development, evangelism, youth ministry, and Christian education.

All the staff at the Faculty of Theology wishes Prof Nel and his family all the best for the future.

As from May 2012, Stephan de Beer will take over from Prof Nel as director of the Centre of Contextual Ministry.
