Exhibition of Pretburners@Afrikaburn project at Van Wouw House

Fine Arts students recently participated in a project entitled  Pretburners@Afrikaburn. An exhibition of the project will take place at Van Wouw House from 14 to 15 May 2010, opening on Wednesday evening (12 May) at 17h30 by architect Abre Crafford. Viewing hours on  14 and 15 May are 10am to 4pm. The Van Wouw House is stuated at the corner of Rupert and Clark streets in Brooklyn.

AfrikaBurn takes place annually and is an annual creative arts and freedom of expression festival that aims to build temporary community through collaborative arts projects, in a completely non-commercial environment. Community offerings usually ranges from astounding large-scale interactive art installations, through music and performance installations, all the way down to small quaint interpersonal offerings between fellow participants. This “gift economy” means that there are no commercial exchange at the event - no vending, no cash bars and no branded promotion of services or products, the aim being real social interaction. It is an exercise in total self-reliance: participants camp for four days and provide entirely for themselves, including all their water, shelter and food needs. The entire festival is created by voluntary participants who invest their own personal skills, resources, time and money in the shared project of self expression and creating, for a few days: a Utopian vision. If you came to AfrikaBurn, you had to participate in whatever way you could. More info on the event: visit http://www.afrikaburns.com/
