Proff Elfriede Dreyer and Amanda du Preez were accorded NRF ratings in the latest annual round of rating allocations, with effect from 1 January 2013. This brings the total number of NRF ratings in the Department to four (with Proff Jeanne van Eeden and Lize Kriel).
Prof du Preez has been teaching in the Department since 2001 and heads up the Visual Studies division. Her rating pays tribute to the groundbreaking work that this division has done in terms of visual culture studies. She publishes frequently in national and international journals and participates in a number of international scholastic networks.
Prof Dreyer joined the Department in 2003 and currently heads up the postgraduate component of the Fine Arts programme. She has been instrumental in instituting new degrees that focus on practice-led research and is both a theorist and practicing artist. She publishes in national and international journals and is a regular curator of visual arts exhibitions.
