Community Engagement

The Department of Visual Arts is involved in the community in various ways. Lecturers serve on a number of editorial boards and art and design adjudication committees, act as external examiners for other tertiary institutions and in advisory capacities for bodies such as the NRF, and in general strive to share their professional expertise with the community.

Students are regularly involved in community related art and design projects, such as the community art project for the Pro-Arte Art Academy in Pretoria. From February to November 2006 students offered art classes for primary and secondary school children and obtained valuable experience.
