Centre for Veterinary Wildlife Studies

Vision

The Centre for Veterinary Wildlife Studies, with emphasis on conservation medicine and attending to the health and welfare of indigenous wildlife of Africa, supports the conservation of biodiversity to the benefit of society:
·         by advancing and facilitating the involvement of and contribution by veterinary science to the multidisciplinary team efforts that are required for the conservation of biodiversity
·         by contributing, through focussed research, to knowledge required for the sustainable utilization of indigenous wildlife
·         by developing into a recognised training, research, and service centre that will attract scientists and students from the region and from abroad
 
Mission

The Centre manages the Veterinary Wildlife Programme, a focus area of the Faculty of Veterinary Science, on a matrix system. It facilitates and coordinates:
 
·         Formal under- and postgraduate training in the veterinary aspects of wildlife
·         The presentation of continuing education courses to lay and professional people in veterinary aspects of wildlife
·         Research in the veterinary components of wildlife
·         Consultation and clinical services in the field of wildlife in association with the relevant Heads of Department and the Director: Clinical Services
·         A community-based development programme at a suitable locality at the interface
·         Fundraising
·         Networking with relevant local and international partners
·         Marketing of the Centre and its programmes
