It is a known fact that commitment is fundamental to most notable human achievements. But how does identity shape and strengthen people's commitments and provide a framework for the attainment of future goals? Which factors make people’s behaviour predictable and sustainable in the long run, and what are the consequences of commitment? These are the questions that Prof Salomé Human-Vogel aims to answer through her latest research on the factors that drive people to reach their goals, particularly those that play a role in how people regulate their own behaviour.
Professor Kobus Maree, professor in the Faculty of Education’s Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Pretoria (UP), was named a fellow of the International Association for Applied Psychology (IAAP) at its quadrennial international congress held in Paris during July. Some 4 500 psychologists from 100 countries attended the congress of this association founded in 1920.
Dr Sonja Coetzee from the Department of Humanties Education (left), Dr Caroline Mansfield, Visiting Scholar from Murdoch University and Prof Liesel Ebersöhn from the Unit for Education Research in AIDS, are planning cross-national research on teacher resilience as a South-to-South partnership focusing on building resilience in pre-service teachers.
The Dean of the Faculty of Education, Prof Irma Eloff, received an international excellence in research award on 22 July 2014 in Melbourne, Australia, on behalf of the team of UP-Yale researchers which were led by herself and Dr Brian Forsyth from Yale University.
