Welcome to the website of the Department of Accounting at the University of Pretoria. The business community, accounting profession and academic environment across the country holds the Department, with its highly qualified personnel and strong research links, in high esteem. It was founded in 1924 as the Department of Accounting and Auditing. The Department of Accounting is one of the largest residential university departments in South Africa, accommodating vast numbers of full-time students.

The Department established the well-known accounting research journal, Meditari Accountancy Research, more than a decade ago. The editorship of Meditari Accountancy Research resides within the Department of Accounting. This journal is ranked on the Australian Business Deans Council list – refer to www.abdc.edu.au.

Tuks does it again in SAICA’s Initial Test of Competence 2013 - 28/03/2013
From Department of Accounting

The results of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants’ (SAICA’s) Initial Test of Competence (ITC) (formerly known as QE 1) were released on Wednesday, 27 March 2013, after being written in January 2013. A total of 3 117 candidates wrote the exam, of which 2 272 (73%) passed.

Applications for the degree leading to qualification as a chartered accountant (CA(SA)), namely
BCom(Accounting Sciences) opened on 1 March
Please apply immediately to avoid disappointment. Minimum requirements at Grade 11 level: APS = 34, Mathematics = 6 and Afrikaans or English = 5.
We require Maths NOT Maths literacy.

BCom students transferring to BCom (Acc Sci) from other SAICA accredited universities as well as other BCom degrees at UP, 
write an exemption test in Accounting 1 during the first week of January and MUST contact the Department of Accounting for detail.
