The Institute for Sports Research strives to combine, structure and integrate existing unaddressed Sport Scientific and Biokinetics requirements incorporated within the training, service and research responsibility of the UP, with those of established or envisaged academic departments.
Research is undertaken in an ad hoc and continuous manner on a co-ordinated, interdisciplinary and specialised basis, with the aim of publishing research results.
Training of post-graduate and undergraduate Human Movement Science students by enriching their research and community service exposure.
Sport Testing The demands of international competition are becoming increasingly strenuous. It is essential that South African sports participants and coaches keep abreast of the latest sport science information, which can contribute to the optimisation of sports performances.

I travelled to the home of Swiss tennis in the city of Biel, on the 18th February 2012. The purpose of the trip was to learn from the head strength and conditioning coach at Swiss Tennis, Beni Linder.
In Sydney Australia was the opening leg of the 2012 World Championship Series. Richard Murray who trains with us at Tuks when he is in South Africa became the 1st African and South African to Podium at a World Championship Series event by placing 2nd in a World Class field.
Carlyn Fischer a current Tuks Student finished in 60th position in the ladies race.
Cross Triathlon African Champs:
Took place in Hartebeespoort and forms part of the ITU off road schedule.
Tuks Students and bursary holders Nico Sterk and Rudolf Naude finished in 1st and 2nd Position respectively in the mens Elite race with Theo Blignaut finishing in 4th place wit the fastest run split of the day after 4 punctures on the bike. Both Theo and Rudolf are also HPC bursary athletes.
In the ladies race Carla Van Hysteen stormed to a dominating display to win the ladies and finish 4th overall in the process!
In the Junior event Tuks school and SRSA athletes Marlette Smit finished in 2nd position with Tuks team mate Charne Prinsloo in 2nd position.
