The 26th annual Southern African Institute for Management Scientists (SAIMS) conference was held at the Riverside Sun Resort in September 2014 with the theme “Contemporary management in theory and practice”.
Dr Benjamin Kujinga a former LLD student and now senior lecturer in the Faculty of Law was the winner in the doctoral category of the Norton Rose Fulbright Tax Thesis Competition for 2014. The title of his thesis is “Comparative analysis of the efficacy of the General Anti-Avoidance Rule as a measure against impermissible income tax avoidance in South Africa”, with Prof Riel Franzsen as his supervisor.
Prof Johan Oberholster, currently the CA Programme Manager, has been appointed as the new Deputy Dean: Teaching and Learning in the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences, with effect from 1 October 2014 to 31 December 2016. Prof Oberholster will continue in his position as CA Programme Manager during this period.
Prof Stella Nkomo receives special recognition award from the National Research Foundation (NRF) Professor Stella Nkomo, Deputy Dean for Research and Post-Graduate Studies in the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences at the University of Pretoria, has been granted the NRF award 'Champion of Research Capacity Development at South African Higher Education Institutions' for 2014.
