New research theme for Humanities: The Child and the Story

In August, the new research theme of the Faculty of Humanities, ‘The Child and the Story’, was launched with Dr Molly Brown from the Department of English as Director. The Faculty's other five research themes are 'Improving the Welfare of Vulnerable Children', 'Peace and Conflict', 'Southern Modernities', 'Visual Technologies - Critical Encounters' and the 'Programme in Human Economy'.

UP alumna receives 2014 SAAPS award for Best Master's candidate

Ms Shanna Nienaber, an alumna of the University of Pretoria's (UP's) Department of Political Sciences, has been awarded the 2014 South African Association of Political Studies' (SAAPS) award for Best Master's candidate. The Association is the official body of the disciplines of Political Science and International Relations in South Africa. Awards for the best essays received in various categories are customarily bestowed upon worthy candidates at each biennial SAAPS conference.

Huge teaching development grant for UP

The Department of Higher Education and Training has granted funding of R8 million for the development of higher education based on a project plan put forward by the University of Pretoria and the University of Cape Town. The University of Pretoria (UP) will be coordinating this development that will focus on the establishment of a collaborative open educational resource term bank (OERTB) for higher education.
