The workshops for the project by the Institute for Women's and Gender Studies, Strengthening the Response of Faith-based Organisations to the HIV/AIDS Epidemic (conducted in 2008), were so successful that the Institute was approached by an international youth group to present a similar workshop from 3-4 March 2009.
These workshops are aimed to provide various faith-based organisations with skills and knowledge to respond optimally to the effects and impact of HIV/AIDS from a gender perspective. The delegates from the international group represented the following countries: Zambia, Guyana, Jamaica, China, Korea, Kiribati, New Zealand, India and Indonesia.
The following comments were made by some of the participants:
“I have learned a lot of new things. It was a new light to me. I treasure the experience”: Shebah Krupamayee
“When I came to the workshop, I knew a lot about HIV, but your approach is different and new. It is inspiring and I am going to use it”: Sherry Zuriye Adams
“I liked the different approach and I am going to use it in my work”: Maudi Chakchuak
