International Competition Motivates South African Girls to Achieve Great Heights

A bronze medal was to be the end result for South Africa in the Junior Girls' Singles event at the ITTF-African Junior and Cadet Championships in Cape Town on Thursday 7th April 2011.

The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) has declared 2011 as the International Year of Chemistry (IYC 2011). The IYC 2011 commemorates the achievements of chemistry and its contributions to humankind, including how chemists and other scientists work to protect the environment, develop lifesaving new medicines and create cleaner, greener and more sustainable sources of energy, as well as design new materials for cars, buildings, electronics as products, medical implants and a host of other products.

Professor Thokozani Majozi, Department of Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology (EBIT), has won one of the major NSTF Awards. The NSTF Category B Award recognizes the contribution of an individual through research and its outputs over the last 5 ? 10 years.

UP Professor receives the Queen's Award for her contribution to forestry

The Commonwealth Forestry Association has bestowed Prof Jolanda Roux with the Queen's Award for her contribution to forestry. The award, which recognises the achievements and supports the future work of an outstanding mid-career forester, comprises a certificate, a cash prize and a travel grant.
