Agricultural development has entered a new era of country-driven prioritisation, planning and programming. This requires significant leadership across a broad range of stakeholders. The 2008/9 global food price crisis brought the need for renewed attention to agriculture into sharp focus. For African governments to address hunger and poverty through agricultural growth in the new era requires leadership, change and transformation at various levels and amongst a range of role players.
