A third-year BEng Electronic Engineering student and a BCom (Honours) Financial Management Sciences student received second and third place in the Trader's Trophy competition held at the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) on 19 August 2011. Mokgethwa Tshwane and Charles Hayward were named the respective runners-up to Melinda Jonker, a student from the University of the Free State, who won the competition.

Saturday, September 3 was a great day for South African and TuksAthletics when the defending champion in the 800m, Caster Semenya, won the silver medal on the final day of the IAAF World Athletics Championships in Daegu, Korea.
