New Chair of Faculty Research Committee

Prof Jan Nieuwenhuis of the Department of Education Management and Policy Studies will serve as the new Chair of the Research committee of the Faculty of Education. Prof Nieuwenhuis is a highly respected researcher with decades of experience in Education. He is author and editor of two academic books, more than 40 technical research reports and numerous articles and book chapters. He has served as consultant to the UNESCO Expert Consultative group on Basic Education, been awarded the Senior Research Medal Extraordinaire by the Education Association of South Africa (EASA) and he was a member of the Reference Group of the South African Council of Educators and the Department of Education on Teacher Professional Development (2007-2010). He's also consultant to the Council on Higher Education regarding the accreditation of higher education programmes.

In 2011, the Centre for Human Rights, Faculty of Law, University of Pretoria, once again hosts 30 of Africa's brightest legal minds. These 30 students, from 17 countries across the continent, study towards the LLM (Human Rights and Democratisation in Africa) degree. They spend the first semester of six months at the Centre for Human Rights, University of Pretoria, before embarking on a second semester at one of the twelve partner universities of the programme across the continent.
