Limited information exists on the status quo, progress and performance of the critically important small, medium and micro enterprise (SMME) sector, firstly as a convincing contributor to South Africa’s gross domestic product (GDP) and secondly as one of the only sectors that positively provide in much-needed job creation.

The SMME is a pertinent socio-economic role-player and because of the limited information, a National Small Business Index was proposed by Nedbank, to commence in February 2014 with the first quarter of reporting.

A delegation of professors and representatives of the University of Pretoria (UP) was welcomed to the University of São Paulo (USP) in Brazil by Prof Antonio Carlos Vieira Coelho, the Adviser Support International.

The visiting UP team mainly consisted of heads of departments, with Prof Yolanda Jordaan, Head of the Department of Marketing Management, being selected to represent the Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences.

UP-Tuks 1 has proved once again that they are the best student football team following their convincing win over NMMU’s Madibaz by 4-1, making them the first champions of the Varsity Football Challenge!
After 8 rounds of entertaining football competition, UP-Tuks 1 only lost to TUT by 4-1 in their Tshwane derby on the opening day of the competition but they recovered from their shaky start. They also played 1-1 draw against Madibaz.
