Prisoner of war immortalised in bronze: Edoardo Villa's contribution to South African bronze sculpture

Edoardo Villa was conscripted into the Italian army at the beginning of the Second World War and was captured in Egypt in 1940. He was brought to South Africa as a prisoner of war and interned at the Zonderwater Prisoner of War Camp near Cullinan.

Krêkvars 2012 is around the corner!

The Drama Department proudly hosts the 12th annual Krêkvars Student Arts Festival, which runs from 23 to 28 July 2012 in the Masker and Lier theatres, as well as the Chapel and Studio in the Drama Building. Highlights include the breath-taking "Chasing", director and choreographer Nicola Haskins’s moving portrait of acclaimed poet Ingrid Jonker, and visiting director Wendy Mortimer’s (Indiana State University) "The Alchemy of Desire/Dead Man’s Blues", written by Caridad Svich. Both shows were performed to packed audiences at the recent Grahamstown National Arts Festival.
