Engineering student receives Eskom Chairman’s University Award

Marilize Everts received the University Award (Open Category) at the Eskom Chairman’s Awards for her outstanding achievement in Engineering. In the Open Category students from all universities and all disciplines are competing against each other.

After matriculating from Hoërskool Waterkloof with nine distinctions, Marilize finished her degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Pretoria, maintaining an average of 89%.

UP Campus Tours celebrates a decade of serving heritage

In a fitting conclusion to Heritage month, the honours students enrolled for Heritage and Cultural Tourism in the Department of Historical and Heritage Studies celebrated ten years of UP Campus tours (UPCT). On Saturday 28 September postgraduate students who completed the honours degree in BHCS over the past decade and were involved in the running of UPCT gathered from across the nine provinces of South Africa with some coming from as far as Nigeria to celebrate this milestone. This included two of the founding members Cassie Carstens and Vicky Heunis (neé van Schalkwyk).

Limited information exists on the status quo, progress and performance of the critically important small, medium and micro enterprise (SMME) sector, firstly as a convincing contributor to South Africa’s gross domestic product (GDP) and secondly as one of the only sectors that positively provide in much-needed job creation.
